Risk Register

The material risks the scheme carries, what mitigations exist, and who owns each. A scheme is not safer for hiding its risks; it is safer for naming them.

How to read this register

Each risk is scored on two dimensions — likelihood and impact — at 2026 best-available judgement:

  • Likelihood: Low / Medium / High
  • Impact: Low / Medium / High / Critical

The register is not static. It will be reviewed annually by the and the , and amended in the normal course.

The register does not include risks already covered by the scheme’s protections (Article 12 of the governance document) — those are handled structurally rather than through in-scheme mitigation.

What this register does not include

  • Risks already addressed by the provisions (Article 12) — scheme failure is structurally held rather than mitigated
  • Risks carried entirely at individual holding level (succession, family dispute, individual financial distress) — these are matters for the holding, supported where the scheme can help
  • Risks to the wider Yorkshire Wildlife Trust organisation that are not scheme-specific — ’s broader organisational risk register is a separate document held by YWT trustees

Review cadence

  • Annual review: every February, by the , with input from and Board
  • Ad-hoc review: when a material change in the operating environment occurs ( policy shift, major agricultural event, scheme-level incident)
  • Year 5 formal review: full register reviewed and reconstituted as part of the first scheme review
  • Year 10–12 mid-term review: full register reviewed again as part of mid-term renegotiation

Current version: 19 April 2026. This register is reviewed annually and after material events — see review cadence above.
