Where and how people can enter the scheme area — for walking, research, monitoring, or other legitimate reasons.

Last updated: 22 April 2026

The Site Access Plan sets out where and how people can enter the scheme area — for walking, research, monitoring, or other legitimate reasons — while respecting the rights and privacy of the landowners whose land hosts the scheme.

This page describes the plan. The plan itself is a working document held by the consortium. When the plan is complete, you will be able to download it from this page.

What the plan will contain

When complete, the plan will set out:

  • The existing public rights of way through the scheme area
  • Any new permissive access the consortium is offering, and on what terms
  • How access will be signposted, maintained, and (where necessary) controlled — for example during calving or breeding seasons
  • How researchers, monitoring bodies, and the consortium’s own staff enter the land
  • How the consortium will respond to concerns about access — from the public or from landowners

Who contributes to this plan

The Site Access Plan is shaped by the consortium with input from the relevant highway and rights-of-way authorities and, where appropriate, from recreational and community groups who use the area.

What happens once the plan is complete

Once signed off, the plan is submitted to DEFRA along with the other five plans. This page’s banner will flip to “Decision reached”.
